Toronto Short Story

Toronto: Tour Guide

Toronto is the foundation of Canada. It is the most multicultural diverse city on the planet with over 140 languages spoken there, making it very sophisticated to live in. What makes this city so great is that even though it is so multicultural, and an estimated half of the population have come from outside the city, nearly everyone gets along alright. When the weather is okay which is most of the time, the city is buzzing with activity and has an exciting feel to it. You can find some of the world’s finest cuisines and restaurants here with some fantastic clubs and bars too. Winter can be a hindrance to rain, snow and bitterly cold temperatures, closing highways and roads and stopping some activity. Although, if you go into it with an open mind and positive attitude, you can think about spring, just around the corner, which is lovely and vibrant, meaning you can have a great time. Anyway, Toronto is a city that doesn’t know about its greatness yet and has got a good future to come.

Top Attractions in Toronto:

CN Tower:

The iconic CN Tower boasts 1970s engineering, looking like a big long needle. Its function stands as a communication tower. Tourists can ride up the once tallest, 553m free-standing building in an elaborate glass elevator. This is just something you must do when you are in Toronto. Or if you don’t fancy a ride up you are bound to see the building in the day or at night when it puts on a brilliant free light show. Make sure to go up on a clear day as the views are simply stunning. But pick a hazy day and often you won’t see anything. There is a restaurant at the top called 360 although it is quite pricey. If you are a daredevil and are 13 years or more you can opt to do the 20-minute edge walk, which takes you around the perimeter of the main building, 356m up.

401 Richmond:

Quite a few art galleries have an unusual name like this one 401 just like the one in Shanghai named ‘M50’. They both don’t look very appealing from the outside. But don’t let this put you off having a wander around here. With stunning artwork on offer, the gallery is placed inside an early 20th-century lithographers warehouse. Being restored in 1994, this 18,500 square meter building hosts a huge collection of art, with the creativity and diversity of 130 different contemporary artists. It vitrines a huge variety of artists and pretty much any genre you can think of. Grab a coffee and snack and enjoy the summer sun in the quaint rooftop garden.

Ripley’s Aquarium of Canada:

Experience the thrill of one of the three aquariums owned by Ripley’s entertainment. Found just south-east of the CN Tower, it holds 5.7 million litres o marine and fresh water from all over the world. Find 20,000 exotic and freshwater different aquatic life from 450 species. Originally planned to be built in Niagara Falls in 2004, but plans fell through so was relocated to Toronto. It only opened in 2013 so is only a few years old. It is planned into 10 different galleries including Rainbow reef, Dangerous lagoon and Planet jellies, which is just to mention a few. It is a great day out and can pass some time on a rainy day.

Transport in Toronto:

Public transport is a great way to get around in Toronto. With various methods, it is fast, clean and a safe way of getting around. In many cases it can save you a lot of money, not having to hire a car or pay for expensive parking. The first way is Subway. There are many different lines taking you around the main parts of the city. They run every two minutes in rush hour and about every 5 minutes otherwise. Services run between 6 am and 01.30 am every day with a 9 o clock start on Sundays. Another way is by tram. They are a great way to see the city and operate like a bus taking you to the main parts of the city. Buses are also a big part of the city taking you around the inner city. If you are coming from outside of the city make sure to plan your trip carefully, as some run infrequently. You can also walk around the city due to its togetherness.
